چکیده
detected a tumour obstructing the apical segmental bronchus of the left lower lobe. The tumour was biopsied and identified as undifferentiated large cell carcinoma. The patient was referred to the regional hospital for scheduling of endobronchial ultrasound with real-time transbronchial needle aspiration (EBUS-rt-TBNA) for staging. The following week, the patient suffered a brief syncopal episode. He was seen at the emergency department of A 64-year-old male smoker visited his general practitioner complaining of persistent cough. A chest radiograph showed a mass in the left lower lobe. A computed tomography (CT) scan confirmed the finding and also showed mediastinal nodal enlargement. After the CT scan, the patient suffered a rash and dyspnoea, which were assumed to be the result of allergy to the iodinecontaining contrast medium. Radial Probe Endobronchial Ultrasound for Peripheral Pulmonary Lesions: Initial Experience in an Indian Tertiary Healthcare Centre
Introduction : Diagnosis of peripheral pulmonary nodules is confusing; therefore, an accurate and safe lung biopsy can prevent unnecessary invasive diagnostic procedures. This study soughtto study the diagnostic yield, sensitivity, specificity, and negative and positive predictive values (NPV and PPV) of radial probe endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS)-guided biopsy for peripheral pulmonary lesions...
متن کاملPulmonary embolus diagnosed by endobronchial ultrasound
Endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS) imaging is commonly used to evaluate and aid in biopsy of mediastinal lymph nodes. Pulmonary arteries are readily viewable with this type of imaging modality. We present a case report of a pulmonary embolism (PE) diagnosed by EBUS. Our patient had no smoking history and presented with respiratory and constitutional symptoms, urinary retention, and leg weakness su...
متن کاملEndobronchial ultrasound: beyond nodes and masses
Pulmonary embolism (PE) is a life-threatening condition with varied presentation and, therefore, poses clinical challenge for early diagnosis and proper management without which it carries high mortality. Previous studies on the role of endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS) in diagnosis of PE were carried out after PE was already diagnosed by computed tomography pulmonary angiography. We report a cas...
متن کاملPulmonary artery sarcoma diagnosed by endobronchial ultrasound-guided transbronchial needle aspiration.
Pulmonary artery sarcoma is a rare disease with poor prognosis that has not been reported in Hong Kong. Its clinical and radiological presentation frequently mimics pulmonary embolism. Diagnosis is usually delayed until surgery, which is the treatment option that provides the best survival. Endobronchial ultrasound-guided transbronchial needle aspiration is an effective non-surgical technique f...
